When I was taught a composition in the ragam "Bhairavi" by my Veenai Guru Smt Radhamani Sharma, she explained that this is a janya ragam of Natabhairavi melam, with Chathusruthi dhaivatham in the Arohanam & sudhdha dhaivatham in the avarohanam. To me, it appeared to be a combination of 2 melakarthas with all seven notes in both ascending & descending modes.
Then I asked my Guru the possibility of 72x72 Misra Melakarthas to which she said that they are possible. That night I selected two Melakartha ragas which do not have any common notes other than the prakruthi swaras 'Sa' & 'Pa', with the other 5 vikruthi swaras being different.
They were Hemavathi(58th Melam) for the ascent & Mayamalava gowlai( 15th Melam) for the descent; I called this as a Misra Melam 'Hema Gowlai" with a number code '58-15'.
Arohanam: s r2 g1 m2 p d2 n1
Avarohanam: s n2 d1 p m1 g2 r1 s
An Athi thaala Varnam was attempted in the above combination
